Archbishop meets Muslims in Negombo appeals to Catholics

A clash between two groups in Negombo yesterday turned violent resulting in mobs attacking some Muslims. Accordingly, the Office for Reparations under the Ministry of National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement & Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development and Youth Affairs has taken immediate steps to assess the damages, the Prime Minister’s Office has announced. (Colombo Gazette)(Image courtesy social media) The Archbishop of Colombo Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith visited Negombo today and spoke to the communities affected by the violent clashes yesterday.Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith also visited a mosque and had discussions with Muslim religious leaders in the area. The Archbishop of Colombo also appealed to the Christians in Negombo to live in peace with the Muslim community. The Police later imposed an overnight curfew in the area which was lifted this morning.Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has given instructions to pay compensation for the damages caused to public and private property as a result of the tense situation that prevailed in Negombo yesterday, the Prime Minister’s Office said.
