Many visitors don’t consider a trip to the Boardwalk complete without stopping at Manco & Manco for pizza. The owners have taken steps to make the process as safe as possible. By TIM KELLYWhen the Ocean City Boardwalk reopened recently, one of the top questions heard around town was: “When can I get a slice of Manco & Manco pizza?”Now would be a good time. Not only is Manco & Manco open and ready to serve up its iconic pizza and other food, it has a comprehensive safety plan in place.“We’ve taken numerous precautions to protect our valued customers’ safety, and that of our staff,” said Chuck Bangle, a Manco & Manco co-owner.Bangle said the flagship store at 9th and the Boardwalk is open for curbside pickup, sales by the slice at the counter, and delivery service by one of a team of 25 drivers, to the customer’s location. Social distancing is strictly observed as well.“We’ve perfected the art of curbside pickup,” Bangle said, explaining the process: customers phone in their order, drive to the pickup area and wait for one of the yellow-vested, computer-carrying Manco & Manco team members to deliver the pizza to the customer’s vehicle. The entire process takes between 15 or 20 minutes, and all food is sealed with a tamper-evident sticker prior to leaving any of the Manco & Manco locations.“If you like ordering by the slice on the Boardwalk, you’ll be served by a team member wearing a mask and standing behind a Plexiglas barrier,” Bangle said. Those opting for delivery may call 609-399-2548. Touchless, no-contact delivery is available by paying in advance with a credit card (gratuity can be included) and instructing where to drop off the order.“Once the food goes into the box, the next person to touch it is the customer,” Bangle remarked.Additional steps:All Manco & Manco servers wear masksPie makers and food prep workers wear masksEmployees are positioned within social distancing guidelines inside Manco & Manco locationsCustomers waiting in line are asked to maintain six feet of social distancingManco & Manco isn‘t alone in emphasizing safety. Ocean City is ready and the Surf Mall in particular is ready — 100 percent,” Kazmarck noted. If you are a business owner with an “opening safely strategy” OCNJ Daily wants to help reach and educate customers on your efforts. DES MOINES — The Iowa State Association of Counties has released a video to highlight the dilemmas many Iowans face trying to find mental health services. It starts with the voices of Mary Neubauer and Larry Loss of Clive, the parents of a boy named Sergei.“It quickly became evident that he needed longer term help if he were to recover from his illness and there simply wasn’t any,” Neubauer said. Loss adds: “We’re just parents trying to find help for our son.”Sergei Neubauer took his own life in September of 2017. Marion County Sheriff Jason Sandholdt is another voice in the video. He was at the statehouse yesterday along with officials from other counties, urging lawmakers to find long-term funding for services, especially for children.“I struggle at three o’clock in the morning when a mom and dad call me and they say: ‘My 14-year-old son or daughter is suicidal…What should I do, sheriff?” he said. “For me to say: ‘Well, you can go to the ER and you might have to sit there for a couple of days until we find them a bed,’ that’s not good service.”Suzanne Watson, CEO of the Southwest Iowa Mental Health Disabilities Region covering nine counties, has worked in the system for 25 years and has seen several attempts to find funding for mental health services.“I think we’ve put band-aids on it as we’ve gone, but I think it’s time that people realize that we need to get it a point where every region, every county can levy the amount of dollars that they really need to provide the best mental health system that we can,” said Watson, who was also at the statehouse yesterday for the lobbying effort.Watson is also in the Iowa State Association of Counties video on the subject, which you can see below.

Through the mobile application, you can access any of your media files and play stream them over either a Wi-Fi or 3G connection. In the Windows version of the software, PC’s with TV tuner cards can also connect you to live, streaming TV in addition to the other shared media saved on the PC’s hard drive. To some extent, Orb competes with Apple’s own offerings since it provides access to music and video from either a desktop computer or an iPhone. That’s why it was somewhat surprising that Apple ever approved the company’s iPhone application to begin with. Even more surprising is that they allowed it to function over 3G when similar products – like Slingbox’s SlingPlayer for iPhone, another live TV streaming app – are restricted to Wi-Fi only. 4 Keys to a Kid-Safe App We had almost forgotten about Orb, the media-sharing software that lets you stream video from your home computer to your iPhone or any other internet-connected device. In fact, the last time we had even looked at the application was November of 2008 when the company announced an update to their iPhone application which allowed you to stream live TV over the 3G network. At that time though, the desktop software portion of the Orb product was PC-only. As in Windows PC-only. Today, that has changed. Orb for Macintosh has finally been released so Mac OS X users can now stream their media over the net, too. Orb is a desktop software program that facilitates streaming of personal media over the internet. Once installed and configured, you can access your home computer’s content library from any internet-connected device. The software easily achieves what many other technology companies are still figuring out how to do – make your media available anywhere and everywhere on any device you use with minimal effort on your part. sarah perez No Live TV for Mac Users YetUnfortunately, the Mac version is debuting without the live TV streaming functionality. According to Joe Costello, CEO of Orb Networks, support for live TV support will be added in subsequent versions. In the meantime, however, Mac users can install the Orb software to stream music, photos, videos, home movies and webcam feeds stored in iTunes to their iPhones or to any other internet-connected device including netbooks, notebooks, media players, game consoles and more. All that’s needed is the new Mac OS X desktop software (works on OS X Intel 10.5 or later). Those interested in trying out the new Mac version can grab the installer from here: orb.com/en/download_orb. For now, the Mac software is available in English only.
Some filmmakers have to do everything. So here are five tips to simplify acting and directing in your next video project.Cover Image by gnepphoto. From pioneer filmmakers like Orson Welles to classic genre stars like Clint Eastwood to modern legends like Spike Lee to crossover stars like Lena Dunham, filmmakers who can both act and direct in their own projects are a highly talented but rare breed. However, while it may seem like an easy solution (who better to star in your brilliant masterpiece than you?), it’s also a huge challenge to pull off without losing your mind in the process. So let’s look at some practical tips and tricks to help you succeed in both roles on your next project.Do The Majority of Your Directing Before You Arrive On SetImage by gnepphoto. As is true with most things in film and video production, the more you plan before you actually start filming, the better. This is especially true when you need wear multiple hats as actor and director. Both require good instincts and creative problem-solving skills, but you can mitigate risks with a solid production schedule that you follow to a T. When acting in scenes that you also direct, do plenty of table readings, walkthroughs, and rehearsals to get everything tightly blocked and worked out. Ideally, once you’re on set, you’ll just be going through the well-rehearsed motions.Use a Stand-In When NecessaryImage by gnepphoto.Another good trick when directing yourself (and others) in scenes is to use a stand-in for your actor-self so that you can focus completely on directing. Your stand-in doesn’t have to be a perfect double — all you need is a live body to help with technical aspects like lighting, audio recording, and camera movements. A double also allows you to fully visualize compositions, mannerisms, and movement throughout scenes.Have Someone You Trust on SetImage by Niphon Subsri. To truly jump between two such highly important roles, you need someone you trust as a de-facto stand-in director. If your production is big enough, an AD (assistant director) may be that person, but on smaller productions, it may have to be your DP, your Key Grip, or another actor. If it’s someone you trust and have a rapport with, they can give your actor-self feedback and notes and direction, which can help you stay in character when you need to act.Monitors Are A Huge HelpImage by guruXOX.One of the biggest problems with directing yourself in scenes is that you can’t see the performance. Luckily, you have cameras at the ready. Monitors become a huge help in this process so you’re not just huddling around a viewfinder after each take with the rest of the crew. If you have several and a mobile setup, you can keep monitors turned to you on set so that you can stay in your place and view takes without even abandoning your mark.Give Yourself Time to DisconnectImage by Studio 72.Probably the most important thing an actor-director can do when trying to wear both hats is to give yourself enough time to disconnect from one before you try to assume the other. You’re not a prima donna if you need to take a few moments to refocus yourself after directing a scene before you jump into acting in the next one. Acting is tough enough work, and it requires self-centering and a nuanced attention to detail that doesn’t just activate on command. Trust your friends and your crew to help, but take time to give your best performances in both roles. For more filmmaking tips and tricks, check out these resources.101 Filmmaking Tips & Tricks: a FREE Filmmaking eBook7 Tips for Low-Budget FilmmakingFilmmaking Tips: How to Develop an Anti-Hero9 Common Filmmaking Mistakes to Avoid7 Quick Production Tips for Film and Video Professionals
